Ybor City Florida Real Estate
Known as Tampa's Latin Quarter, Ybor City is home to stunning 19th century architecture and a range of entertainment hotspots. Many of Ybor City's original Spanish and Colonial-style buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, and have been revived as music and shopping venues. Construction features like wrought iron balconies, luxurious archways, and brick-lined side-streets offer a glimpse into this area's colorful past.
Ybor City emerged around the turn of the 20th century as the world's largest producer of hand-rolled cigars. Named for cigar factory owner Vincent M. Tybor, who moved his tobacco empire here from Key West in 1886, the area was eventually populated with several large cigar companies.
Cigar manufacturing is still a part of modern Ybor City, as well as tourism and shopping. At the center of the district, between 7th and 8th avenues, is Centro Ybor, an entertainment/shopping complex offering a cinema, several retailers and restaurants, and an open-air bar. The gift shop for nearby Ybor City State Musuem is also located here.
