So How’s the Weather?
We had a beloved member of our family who moved to Florida in the early 1970’s. Over the years we would ask her, “So how’s the weather?” and she would always reply with the same: “Partly sunny, partly cloudy, chance of rain”. It’s actually become sort of a funny saying in our family and it’s always said with a smile. We moved to Florida in 1994, and now that we’ve lived here for the past 12 years, we really couldn’t sum it up any better.... “Partly sunny, partly cloudy, chance of rain”.
The spring is typically dry and cool, which always paves the way for “spring breakers”, tourists and golfers who enjoy Florida’s many beautiful amenities. It warms up considerably in May, setting the stage for our most tropical time of the year - June through September. High temperatures keep many families and tourists heading out to their lanais to enjoy their pools or heading off to the ocean to enjoy the warm surf of the Gulf of Mexico. Beware of the almost guaranteed afternoon thunderstorm… Central Florida is often referred to as the “Lightning Capital of the World” and rightly so. Beautiful lightning lights up the night sky and the much desired rain quenches the thirst of the lawns and feeds the lush vegetation that surrounds our beautiful city.
October rolls around and with it the beginning of our fall – yes, we have fall – it’s just shorter than up north, encompassing October and November with comfortably warm days and cool nights.
December through February the temperatures are cool for us Floridians, with the average highs in the low 70’s – and yes, we do have to cover our plants for the occasional frost and you will need that jacket that you’re tempted to give away before moving here.
March brings in warmer days and evenings and the cycle begins again. No wonder so many people are moving to Florida - it’s truly beautiful here!
