Moffitt and Merck Announce Joint Company - 170 High Paying Jobs for Tampa

Well just yesterday I posted a story about how Tampa Bay was attracting higher paying jobs to the area; little did I know one day later there would be such a big announcement regarding H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. It looks like the two companies are creating a joint company to develop drugs for the treatment of cancer. The joint company to be called M2Gen Inc. is expected create at 170 high paying bioscience jobs with an average salary of $80,000 and add $1 billion to Hillsborough County’s economy over the next few years. Tampa Attracting Higher Paying Jobs

The Greater Tampa Chamber’s Commaittee of 100 reports that although the number of jobs created in 2006 is down from 2005, the average salary for new jobs is up. The average salary for new jobs created in 2006 was $43,469, which is up from $38,796 in 2005. For a long time Tampa was considered to be primarily to be a call center region, attracting back-office operations for companies such as Progressive Insurance, Capital One, Citigroup, and Disney.
