There is a good article in today's Tampa Tribune on a host of new companies now offering homeowners insurance here in Florida. These companies are all based in Florida and specialize in property insurance here in Florida.
The article focuses on four insurance companies, each with their own niche. Last March I published an article explaining Florida's New Insurance Bill, in fact it's been one of my more popular articles, second only to Understanding Florida's Real Estate Taxes. Anyway, at the time of the article I stated that although the bill was well intentioned, I questioned whether the bill would truly end up saving consumers any money.
Well, six months later some homeowners have seen some savings in their insurance premiums, but it's nowhere near the expected savings. Now with 2008 quickly approaching many insurance companies are asking for rate increases and plan to drop thousands of policies. As a result homeowners may actually see an increase next year.

Governor Crist is expected to sign his first bill as Governor Thursday. The bill is expected provide relief to home owners from rising property insurance costs. Florida lawmakers passed the bill on Monday at a special session that was scheduled specifically to address skyrocketing insurance costs in Florida. How much savings can consumers expect? Well, that’s still a widely debated topic, but expectations range from 5% to 20%. Consumers with policies through the state run company, Citizens Insurance, are expected to see the greatest savings.
