Boating in Siesta Key - Tampa Living Series
Tampa Bay Living
Without a doubt one of our favorite spots in Florida is Siesta Key. A few weeks ago, as last hoorah before school started, we took the kids, along with some family friends, and went down to Siesta Key and rented a boat from CB Outfitters and spent the day cruising Sarasota Bay. We had a great time and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves the water and the beach.
Siesta Key is only about an hour and fifteen minutes from the New Tampa area, so it’s an easy day trip. We got up early and got down to CB Outfitters at 9:00 AM, so we could enjoy the whole day and take full advantage of the boat. You can see our route on the map below, but we started at CB’s and headed south to Palmer Point Beach, which is really only accessible to boaters and a few local residents. From there we continued South to the Venice Inlet, where there is a small island, Snake Island, although I’m happy to say I didn’t see any snakes. Along the way we encountered the dolphins you see in the picture above, although we were warned not to pet the dolphins as they do bite! We also stopped at the Gulf Harbor Marina for an ice cream. At Snake Island, we anchored just off the beach and spent the rest of day floating in the water and enjoying the day.
I'd also like thank my friend Marc Rasmussen, a local Siesta Key expert, for pointing out some of these great spots and heading us in the right direction.
